Bobbin Lacemaking Holidays in Bobowa Poland

picture of a scene of Bobowa, Poland

Bobowa is an ancient settlement situated in the valley of the Biala River, between Tarnów and Nowy Sacz, 25 kilometres north-west of Gorlice.

The village is famous for its rich folklore and beautiful handicrafts. Women in Bobowa have been making bobbin lace for a long, long time. The history of bobbin lace in Bobowa dates back to the beginning of the XVI century. The lace is made by tying and interlacing spun linen thread using smoothly turned bobbins.

Ewa Szpila, bobbin lacemaker and designer in the village, invites you to her home to learn these techniques. Ewa offers residential lacemaking workshops in her home; intensive tuition with a maximum of eight students whilst sampling wonderful home cooked food and Polish hospitality and evenings walking in the beautiful countryside.
